Dr. Richard Marsh

Dr. Richard Marsh has provided dynamic educational leadership at all academic levels, K-12, in addition to teaching graduate studies at various universities for over 40 years in public education, including his most recent positions as Superintendent of Schools and educational consultant on Long Island.

Many in the Bethpage community credit Dr. Marsh with taking a good school district and shaping it into a great one. Dr. Marsh served as the district's Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for almost six years before becoming Superintendent of Schools in 2004. During his tenure, Bethpage earned national recognition for its exemplary academic, athletic, arts and technological programs. Also, in May, 2009, Dr. Marsh was a recipient of the prestigious Nassau BOCES “Education Partner” Award, recognizing individuals who have had the greatest influence on improving education in Nassau County. Over the years he has served as a member of various advisory boards, including the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education, the Bethpage Educational Foundation, and the Baldwin Teacher Center.

As a member of the executive board of the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents, Dr. Marsh advocated for the importance of building partnerships that will benefit students and the school community. In Bethpage, for example, he acquired hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants, payments in lieu of taxes, and contributions to the school district by partnering with corporations and elected officials, and secured internships for students with companies such as Northrop Grumman. The Cablevision Corporation remains one of the premier partners of the Bethpage School District.

Dr. Marsh holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from New York University, professional diplomas from both St. John’s and Hofstra Universities, and a doctorate from Hofstra University. Of these five degrees, four are in the specialty areas of educational supervision, administration and policy.
